The United States remains fully committed to disarming Hamas, according to a source close to the Board of Peace. The position was emphasized in response to remarks made by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz on Wednesday.
US Maintains Commitment to Hamas Disarmament

Katz had previously stated that everyone understands the disarmament will not happen, which a source close to the BoP told KAN News went against the Board of Peace’s efforts. The source told KAN News that there is no need to guess or believe, but rather to cooperate with the Peace Council’s plan to remove Hamas from its weapons and rule in Gaza. Under the plan, Hamas must either disarm itself voluntarily or face disarmament by force from the Israel Defense Forces with international backing.
Additionally, a source in Washington stated that US President Donald Trump remains fully committed to his 20-point plan to disarm Hamas. According to that source, Israeli forces will withdraw after disarmament while an International Stabilization Force collaborates with the Palestinian police to assume responsibility for Gaza and ensure safety for residents and neighbors. The Washington source also reiterated that the stance of the United States remains against any policy aimed at removing residents from the Gaza Strip.
Defense Minister’s Statements and Public Responses
Katz’s initial comments on Wednesday came in response to criticism from People of Israel chairman Ofer Winter regarding the Israeli government’s handling of Hamas. In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Katz stated that Winter was not up-to-date, asserting that 70% of Gaza was destroyed while the IDF surrounds the remaining 30% to work on eliminating the remainder of Hamas.
Katz’s Moderated Stance on X
Katz subsequently moderated his stance in a later post on X. He stopped claiming that Hamas disarmament would not happen and clarified that targeted strikes against Hamas figures are conducted in accordance with enabling political conditions. Regarding emigration from the Gaza Strip, Katz stated that the issue would only be advanced when the US administration decides to return to the initiative and convince countries to absorb migrants.
Winter’s Pushback Against Developments
Winter pushed back against these developments, questioning how Hamas could still remain after years of conflict, five divisions fighting in Gaza, and ongoing supply trucks being sent daily into the territory, while criticizing the handling of voluntary emigration.
