Porsche Brings Back Manual 911 Carrera S

Porsche is reviving the manual transmission for the 911 Carrera S, responding to what the company describes as overwhelming customer demand. Unveiled during Monterey Car Week, the 2027 Porsche 911 Carrera S with the new MT Package will be offered in both coupe and Cabriolet body styles exclusively in North America. Orders are open now, and deliveries are expected to begin by the end of 2026.

Porsche Brings Back the Manual 911 Carrera S

The manual Carrera S features a classic six-speed manual transmission shared with the 911 Carrera T, directing power exclusively to the rear wheels. Under the hood, the car retains the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine found in other Carrera S models, producing 473 horsepower and 391 ft lbs of torque. According to performance testing figures, the setup enables the car to sprint from zero to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 191 mph.

Performance Equipment and Weight Savings

The MT Package bundles the manual gearbox with an extensive list of standard performance hardware that distinguishes it from the standard Carrera S. Upgrades include rear-axle steering, the Sport Chrono Package, unique exhaust tuning, and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) Sport suspension, which lowers the ride height by 10 to 11 millimeters, or 0.4 inch. The vehicle also features a SportDesign front fascia and titanium exhaust outlets with black trim.

For the first time on a Carrera S, center-locking wheels come standard. These wheels save more than 17 pounds compared to standard Carrera S units. Despite the additional hardware, the manual Carrera S coupe weighs 3,327 pounds, keeping it just 11 pounds heavier than a Carrera T coupe.

Stopping power is handled by front six-piston calipers gripping 16.1-inch discs and rear four-piston calipers working with 15-inch discs. Buyers can also upgrade to optional Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes.

Pricing, Options, and Availability

Choosing the MT Package comes at a financial premium. Pricing for the 2027 model starts at $169,450 for the coupe, which includes a $2,350 destination fee, while the Cabriolet starts at $183,350 with destination. This represents roughly a $13,000 increase over the standard automatic versions of the car, though MotorTrend notes that the bundled equipment comes at a discount of roughly five percent versus the PDK automatic model.

Inside, the cabin features four-way Sport Seats Plus as standard, alongside a traditional walnut shift knob and a graphic depicting the manual shift pattern. Buyers can opt for 14-way Sport Seats, 18-way Sport Seats Plus, or carbon-fiber Folding Lightweight Bucket seats. Extensive personalization is available, including:
