Avengers Endgame Encore Receives New Official Trailer

Marvel Studios is bringing back its biggest superhero blockbuster with Avengers: Endgame: Encore, a special theatrical re-release arriving on September 25, giving Marvel fans another reason to return to theaters for the film that originally became a global cinematic event in 2019.

Marvel Studios Releases Avengers: Endgame Encore Trailer and Poster

Tickets for Avengers: Endgame: Encore are now on sale, with Marvel also releasing a new trailer and poster for the theatrical return. The MCU is arguably in its most exciting place in the last seven years, having just released Spider-Man: Brand New Day, preparing to premiere VisionQuest on October 14, getting ready for Avengers: Doomsday on December 18, and being just weeks out from re-releasing Avengers: Endgame, complete with a brand-new logo. The re-release arrives as Marvel builds anticipation for Avengers: Doomsday, making Endgame: Encore a bridge between one of the MCU’s most important movies and its next major chapter.

Marvel Studios released the first-ever trailer for Avengers: Endgame Encore, one month out from its return to theaters on September 25. The trailer honored Endgame with moments from its climactic battle in the ruins of the Avengers Compound that were too spoilery to reveal before its 2019 release, like the Portals scene, Steve Rogers wielding Mjolnir against Thanos, and Tony Stark’s sacrifice. Endgame Encore will be a rare opportunity to relive one of the most infamous theatrical experiences in history before Doomsday, all while gaining an understanding of what Disney’s new Infinity Vision certification is. The Avengers re-release is coming with an inflated, record-breaking runtime, enhancing the beloved experience with four minutes of new footage that better sets the stage for Doomsday.

“It’s critically important to re-release the movie, and, in fact, we’ll be re-releasing the film with footage that is set in the Doomsday story that we have added to Avengers: Endgame,” co-director Joe Russo said during an appearance at Sands Film Festival (via Deadline).

Russo added that the new footage is added to Avengers: Endgame to bridge the gap toward the upcoming film. A “first look” at Avengers: Doomsday is promised, which may well be enough to get many MCU fans back in the theater. While it’s unknown exactly what form the first look will take, it’s likely to be part of a post-credits scene, something the original release of Avengers: Endgame famously didn’t have. The trailer includes a line from Tony Stark regarding messing with time, which does appear to play directly into Doom’s motives in the upcoming film.

Nostalgia Marketing and Box Office Context

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Passes Endgame at the Domestic Box Office

The trailer for the re-release takes a nostalgic approach, showing footage of audiences reacting to “Endgame” in theaters seven years ago, recreating the excitement and emotional atmosphere surrounding the movie’s original release. If you were hugging random strangers during the portals scene or Captain America catching Mjolnir, you weren’t alone, and now you can do it all over again.

Avengers Endgame: Encore | Official Trailer | In Theaters Sep 25

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has passed Endgame at $858.4 million to take the No. 2 spot on the all-time domestic chart, and Encore‘s gross is the only way Endgame gets it back. The theatrical return gives fans a chance to experience the historical blockbuster back on the big screen as the studio counts down to the December 18 release of Avengers: Doomsday.
