Growth Drivers and Market Tailwinds
Industry executives and trade bodies attributed the robust phase to multiple macroeconomic tailwinds. SIAM Director General Rajesh Menon noted that growth was supported by a lower base from the previous year, alongside strong consumer confidence, resilient rural markets, improving financing conditions, and the accelerating adoption of alternative drivetrains (The Hindu Business Line).
Maruti Suzuki senior executive officer for marketing and sales, Partho Banerjee, highlighted three primary tailwinds driving the market: goods and services tax changes, repo rate reductions that lowered equated monthly installments, and income tax exemptions on incomes up to Rs 12 lakh. Banerjee added that Maruti Suzuki closed August with pending bookings of nearly 1.8 lakh units, with the newly launched compact SUV Brezza accounting for 30,000 of those orders.
Two-Wheeler and Segment Performance
Within the two-wheeler segment, scooters served as the primary growth driver, advancing 23.8 per cent to 8,55,715 units. Festive Season Outlook and Expectations
Automakers and industry representatives are entering the upcoming festive period with optimism Rediff. Menon stated that festive demand is expected to provide an additional boost, contributing to healthy second-quarter financial numbers (The Hindu Business Line). While executives project overall industry volume expansion of at least 10 percent for the current fiscal year, they also caution that growth rates are expected to moderate in subsequent months due to the high base effect from the previous year (Forbes India).
