Police have mobilized a multidisciplinary task team in Kempton Park after four women were found dead in the area over two months. The latest discovery on Saturday involved a badly battered body, prompting urgent safety warnings for women and an investigation into potential links between the cases.
Kempton Park Search Intensifies After Runner Disappears
Search efforts and public appeals intensified following the disappearance of 38-year-old Elizabeth Mokolo Moselakgomo, who is also known as Tsontso. According to the South African Police Service, Moselakgomo left her home in Kempton Park for an afternoon run on Wednesday, 10 September 2026, and failed to return home that evening.
Her eight-year-old daughter raised the alarm when her mother did not come back, contacting family members who subsequently reported her missing. Police stated that officers conducted searches, followed up on available leads, and made inquiries at local hospitals and mortuaries without positive results during the initial search phase.
Moselakgomo was last seen between 17:30 and 18:30 on Mustang Street in Rhodesfield according to the reporting outlet. Authorities urged anyone with information to contact Warrant Officer Elvis Manyike.
Discovery of a Battered Body and the Pending Identification
On Saturday evening, police recovered a body in the Rhodesfield area. Family spokesperson Genavieve Beukes told News24 that the family could not immediately confirm whether the remains belonged to Moselakgomo because of severe physical trauma.
The body was transported to the Germiston mortuary, where formal identification procedures were scheduled to take place.
Police Issue Public Warning Amid Four Discoveries
Following the latest recovery, the South African Police Service issued a public warning for women living in and around Kempton Park, particularly in the Rhodesfield vicinity. Investigators noted that four bodies of women had been discovered in the same general area over approximately two months. Preliminary detective work revealed concerning similarities
across the cases, as the bodies were found half-naked with visible bruising in the same vicinity.
While law enforcement officials stressed that investigations remained ongoing and a serial killer link had not been officially confirmed, they deemed the similarities sufficiently concerning
to warrant a public safety warning. Women in the area have been advised to avoid walking or running alone in isolated places and to travel in groups where possible.
Multidisciplinary Task Team Formed to Investigate Deaths
Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane directed the establishment of a dedicated multidisciplinary task team to handle the investigation and determine whether the four deaths are connected. The unit is led by Gauteng Deputy Provincial Commissioner Major General Mbuso Khumalo and includes detectives from specialized branches such as the Murder and Robbery Unit and the Investigative Psychology Unit.
Police continue to appeal to residents, motorists, and security personnel in Rhodesfield and surrounding neighborhoods to share any suspicious activity. Information can be reported directly to investigating officers or submitted anonymously through the MySAPS mobile application.
