Russian Oligarch Helped Pay For Trump Jr.s Bahamas Wedding

President Donald Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., had his May Bahamas wedding heavily financed by Russian oligarch Umar Kremlev, a close ally of Vladimir Putin, according to ProPublica records.

Private Islands, Airlifted Cake, and a Kremlin-Linked Benefactor

On May 24, Donald Trump Jr. celebrated the final night of his wedding with a lavish three-day party across two ultra-exclusive private islands in the Bahamas. Skimpily clad dancers performed in stilettos and sailor caps, a five-tier funfetti cake was airlifted from Florida, and helicopters descended on the property before guests settled into oceanfront villas. On the beach, Trump Jr. lifted his bride into the air as fireworks exploded from a barge over the sea.

Behind the scenes, however, a secret benefactor footed a substantial portion of the bill. Umar Kremlev, a Russian oligarch with close ties to Vladimir Putin, paid for hundreds of thousands of dollars in wedding expenses, according to records reviewed by ProPublica. The oligarch covered the cost of renting one of the private islands for receptions and lodging, paid for the fireworks display, and helped plan the event.

The payments originated from a Dubai-based entity affiliated with the International Boxing Association, a sports organization led by Kremlev that has long relied on funding from the Russian state-owned energy giant Gazprom. The guest list for the intimate affair numbered roughly 50 people, including Trump Jr.’s brother Eric Trump, brother-in-law Jared Kushner, and Kremlev himself. Several attendees noted a sizable group of Russian guests who stood apart speaking Russian, leaving some participants puzzled about their presence.

The spokesman added that Kremlev is not a business partner and that the two men met through a mutual friend in the hunting world, bonding over their mutual love of boxing and the outdoors.

The bride, now Bettina Trump, addressed the report in a social media post featuring images from the celebrations. She characterized the financial contribution as a generous gesture from a friend rather than a political maneuver.

“Our dear friend Umar very generously hosted two incredible nights of celebrations for us AFTER our wedding. It was an extraordinarily generous wedding gift from a friend, and something for which we were and remain incredibly grateful.”

Kremlev’s press office echoed that sentiment, stating that the men share a friendly relationship established a couple of years ago and that Kremlev has never discussed political matters with any of his American friends and acquaintances.

National Security Concerns and Congressional Inquiries

The revelation has drawn sharp warnings from former national security and intelligence officials who view a Russian oligarch funding a presidential family member’s wedding as a potential vulnerability. Frank Montoya Jr., a retired career FBI official who held senior counterintelligence roles, issued a stark assessment of the arrangement.

“This should be unthinkable for the son of the president. End of story.”

Rep. Robert Garcia, the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, asked why a Russian oligarch close to Putin funded Trump Jr.’s wedding in the Bahamas. He wrote on Monday that Umar Kremlev spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on the President’s son and questioned what he got in return, stating that answers are needed.

Sanctions, International Context, and the President’s Absence

Kremlev’s proximity to Vladimir Putin is a matter of public record. In April, Putin bestowed upon him the Order of Friendship, a Russian state honor, and Kremlev subsequently traveled to China as part of the delegation accompanying Putin, according to Chinese state media. Ukraine has imposed personal sanctions on Kremlev due to his close ties to the Russian regime and its security services.

While the broader celebrations drew international figures, President Donald Trump was notably absent from the Bahamas event. Speaking during a trip to Ireland, the president explained that he skipped his son’s nuptials because of pressing national security duties as tensions escalated with Iran.

I have a thing called Iran and other things, President Trump said regarding the scheduling conflict, adding that Don Jr. had calmed down so much and become a different human being since getting married.
