Wardogs Sells 1 Million Copies and Hits 300K Concurrent Players on Launch Day

Bulkhead launched its tactical first-person shooter WARDOGS on PC today, September 10, crossing one million copies sold and drawing over 300,000 concurrent players on Steam. The large-scale military sandbox also debuted on NVIDIA GeForce NOW, offering cloud players support for up to 100-player tactical firefights.

Rather than relying solely on accumulated anticipation, the development team took the unusual step of outlining reasons why players might choose not to buy it, hoping to bypass blind hype.

Bulkhead CEO Joe Brammer Addresses Early Access Sales Milestone

Players arrived in large numbers at launch, creating server queues that temporarily blocked some users from entering matches.

“To cross a million copies sold as we launch into early access is mental,” said Joe Brammer, CEO at Bulkhead. “We’ve spent the last few months showing people exactly what Wardogs is, what it isn’t, and at one point literally gave everyone ten reasons not to buy it. We didn’t want people buying into blind hype. So seeing more than one million people choose to jump in and play the game at early access launch means a huge amount to all of us. But this is still early access. We’ve got things to fix, things we want to improve and a lot more we want to build. The best thing players can do now is keep playing, keep telling us what they think and keep giving us those ridiculous Wardogs moments.”

Brammer noted that the team spent the months leading up to the release showing people exactly what Wardogs is, what it isn’t, and at one point literally gave everyone ten reasons not to buy it. With the game now available in early access, the studio acknowledges that work remains. Developers plan to address technical issues, introduce refinements, and build out additional features based on player feedback.

Cloud Streaming Support on GeForce RTX Hardware

Alongside its direct release on Steam, WARDOGS drops onto the cloud at early-access launch via NVIDIA GeForce NOW. The integration allows players to bypass local hardware limitations, storage management, and lengthy downloads.

The cloud platform supports the game’s core architecture, which pits up to 100 players across three teams against one another in randomized control zones, where tactical gunplay, combined-arms combat, building and destruction can change the course of a match. Ultimate members utilizing GeForce NOW can stream the tactical firefights using GeForce RTX 5080-class performance. Every team play action earns cash, giving players more ways to invest in gear and vehicles that can turn the tide.

Platform Roadmap and Future Content Plans

While the shooter is currently available exclusively on PC, making its debut sales numbers all the more impressive, console players will eventually join the player base. Bulkhead confirmed that the studio is targeting a 2028 release for PS5 and Xbox, though a specific launch date has not yet been locked down.

Developers also anticipate that initial hype numbers may eventually settle as the studio plans to take their time when it comes to releasing new content and therefore there may be drops in player counts. By attempting to find a unique balance between mil-sims like Arma and something a bit more casual like Battlefield, resulting in a tense, grounded, but large-scale experience filled with emergent moments, the game has carved out a distinct space on launch day—one that both developers and cloud partners will monitor as community feedback shapes the early access roadmap.
