Bogota Transit Disrupted by Fatal Usaquén Crash and Multiple Collisions

Fatal Collision in Usaquén and Morning Transit Disruptions

A morning traffic fatality on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at Calle 109 and Carrera 1 in the northern locality of Usaquén drew emergency response units and the city’s Grupo Guía to manage emergency diversions, according to traffic reporting from El Tiempo. The incident marked one of several severe roadway emergencies across the capital during the morning rush.

Additional collisions compounded delays in Usaquén earlier in the day. Transit units responded to a crash between an automobile and a taxi on Avenida Carrera Séptima with Calle 140 in the direction from north to south, alongside a separate collision involving a motorcycle and a pedestrian near Avenida Carrera Séptima and Calle 130 in the direction from south to north. Further north, two separate incidents involving automobiles and motorcycles occurred along the Autopista Norte at Calle 153 and Calle 201 in the direction from south to north, as documented in live municipal tracking.

Additional incidents across the city included a collision on the avenida Circunvalar with calle 72 involving an automobile and a motorcycle in the locality of Chapinero, as well as an accident on the avenida Ciudad de Cali with calle 33 sur that affected routes of the TransMilenio troncal Américas and Portal Américas. On the avenida calle 80 with carrera 119 in the locality of Engativá, a traffic incident occurred between two motociclistas, with transit units deployed to the scene.

Portal Américas and Troncal Américas Delays

Public transit operations faced intense bottlenecks early Tuesday when buses were delayed due to a traffic accident with an invasion of the exclusive lane near the Estación Biblioteca Tintal. Around 6:00 a.m., Transmilenio announced that congestion continued at the Portal Américas of the system following the crash in the south-to-north direction of the Tintal station.

By mid-morning, municipal authorities reported that conditions had begun to improve, and by 8:11 a.m. mobility conditions on the avenida Ciudad de Cali with calle 33 sur improved, decreasing congestion as TransMilenio services recovered their frequency. The Troncal Américas also saw services normalise progressively with normal passage for TransMilenio buses.

Corridor Congestion and Traffic Measures

High traffic volumes persisted along the corredor de la calle 13, also known as Avenida Centenario, with high vehicular flow in both directions where civil agents and traffic units carried out actions to manage mobility. Traffic was also reported on the calle 80 corridor in both directions due to an incident on the Bogota-La Vega road at kilometer 2.5, where authorities arrived at the scene. Restrictions under the city’s pico y placa regulations applied throughout the day for vehicles with plates ending in 6, 7, 8, 9, and 0, running from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with the restriction also applying to taxis with plates ending in 9 and 0.
