Maruti Launches AMT With CNG In Baleno, Swift & Dzire

Maruti Suzuki India Limited has officially launched its Auto Green Mission with the introduction of automatic S-CNG variants for three of its popular models: the Swift, Dzire, and Baleno. Previously, customers purchasing factory-fitted CNG variants of these vehicles were limited to a manual transmission. The new lineup pairs factory-fitted CNG equipment with an automated manual transmission (AMT), eliminating the need for a clutch pedal and easing driving strains in heavy traffic conditions, according to The Economic Times.

Engine Specifications and Transmission Technology

Under the hood, all three models feature the 1197cc Z12E three-cylinder naturally aspirated engine equipped with Dual Variable Valve Timing and Idle Start Stop technology. The motor is mated to a five-speed Auto Gear Shift transmission, commonly referred to as an automated manual transmission, which is powered by an intelligent actuating unit.

When operating in petrol mode, the engine produces 61 kW (82.93 PS) of power at 5,700 rpm and 112.4 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm. When switched to CNG mode, it delivers 51.3 kW (69.75 PS) at 5,700 rpm and 101.8 Nm of torque at 2,900 rpm. The vehicles are equipped with a 37-litre petrol tank and a 55-litre CNG water-filling capacity.

Fuel Efficiency and Safety Systems

The integration of the S-CNG system features several safety and efficiency mechanisms tested at Maruti Suzuki’s Research and Development facility. The setup includes an Intelligent Injection System to maintain an optimal air-fuel ratio, stainless steel pipes and joints designed to prevent corrosion and leakage, and integrated wire harnesses to eliminate short-circuiting. Additionally, a microswitch prevents the vehicle from starting during the CNG refuelling process, and the Idle Start Stop technology assists in saving fuel during stop-and-go driving.
