While the couple participated in a private, family-only ceremony in Palm Beach in late May before traveling to the Caribbean, the subsequent two-night celebration on Little Pipe Key was financed by Umar Kremlev, a Russian oligarch with close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Kremlev paid for private island rentals, guest accommodations, event planning, and the fireworks show using a Dubai-based entity affiliated with the International Boxing Association. Kremlev leads the IBA, a sports organization financed by the Russian state-owned energy giant Gazprom. Roughly 50 guests attended the Bahamas reception, including Eric Trump, Jared Kushner, Ivanka Trump, Tiffany Trump, and Kremlev himself.
Donald Trump Jr. and Bettina Trump Defend the Gift
Following public reporting on the financial arrangement, Donald Trump Jr. and his wife Bettina defended their relationship with Kremlev in a joint statement posted to Instagram alongside 20 photos of the event. The couple described the oligarch as a dear friend whom they met through hunting and outdoor sports.
